On June 21, 1943, around lunchtime, Battipaglia and Salerno are bombed.
It is the beginning of an ordeal that will only end in September with the retreat of the Germans. Inside the town hall is kept the shell of one of the terrible unexploded devices that probably still lie hidden in the territory. This was defused on September 8, 2019 by the bomb disposal experts of the Garibaldi Brigade, together with the images of Battipaglia destroyed it is a warning against the war that, suddenly, can reach us and upset our lives.
